새해, 희망의 작은 빛을 붙잡고 기도합니다.

2023년 한 해 동안 아낌없이 기도해 주시고 도와주신 모든분께 깊이 감사드립니다. 지난 한 해 동안 저희는 새로이 돕기로 한 장애고아원과 러브고아원을 포함하여 11개 고아원에 일 년 간 식량과 학비, 장애 고아원과 빠비앙 고아원 렌트 지원, 아이들 건강검진을 해왔습니다. 어렵고 험한 환경 가운데서 살고 있는 4백여 명의 고아들을 위해 사랑과 정성으로 함께 해주신 여러분께 다시 한번 감사드립니다.

아이티는 연말연시에 대부분의 기업이 문을 닫는 휴가 기간입니다. 대개 크리스마스 전주부터 1월 첫 주까지 많은 기업이 쉽니다. 이 기간 동안 갱들도 조용한 편입니다. 12월 24일 아이티 종합병원의 재개원에 갱들이 총격을 가해 기자 두 명을 포함해 여러 명이 사망한 사건이 발생한 이후로 큰 사건은 일어나지 않았습니다.

지난 3일 금요일에는 과테말라와 엘살바도르에서 유엔 지원 병력이 도착했습니다. 비록 너무 소수이지만(과테말라 75명, 엘살바도르 8명) 갱단에게 주는 메시지는 분명할 것으로 생각이 됩니다.

아이들도 방학을 했고, 가브리엘 고아원을 비롯한 고아원들이 소나피 센터에 와서 탁 선교사님을 통해 식량을 지원받고 있습니다. 모두가 갇혀 있는 곳에서 식량을 공급하며 새해를 시작할 수 있음을 하나님께 감사드리고 있습니다.

장애고아원 아이 중 폐렴을 앓는 아이들이 있어 병원을 다녀야 하는데, 문을 연 병원도 많지 않고, 무료 병원은 다 닫아서, 병원비를 도와달라는 연락도 받았습니다. 삼송고아원 아이들 신발 사달라는 이야기를 듣고, 빠비앙 학교 선생님 월급이 부족하다는 연락도 접수해놓고 있습니다.

새해를 시작하며, 여전히 갱단으로부터 평화가 회복되고, 정치적 안정을 빨리 찾게 되기를 기도하고 있습니다. 더불어 식량 공급이 안정적으로 이루어지고, 아이들이 아프지 않고 지날 수 있기를 기도하고 있습니다. 넉넉하지 않지만 그래도 꾸준히 식량을 공급할 수 있는 은혜에 감사드리며, 새해에는 하나님께서 아이들을 돌보시기를, 분명히 돌보아주시리라는 희망을 품고 기도하고 있습니다.

아이티행 비행기는 4월 29일부터 젯블루에서 항공권을 팔고 있습니다. 저희는 항공기가 들어가면 가능한 한 빨리 아이티에 들어갈 수 있기를 기도하고 있습니다.

새해에도 여러분의 기도를 부탁드립니다. 아이들을 위해 보내주시는 정성과 기도가 보람이 되시도록 지치지 않고 힘을 내겠습니다.

“주님이 고난받는 사람을 변호해 주시고, 가난한 사람에게는 공의를 베푸시는 분임을, 나는 알고 있습니다.” (시편 140편 12절, 새번역)

새해에는 나아질 수 있으리라는 아주 작은 희망의 불빛 하나를 붙잡고 기도하고 있습니다.

In this New Year, we hold onto a glimmer of hope and pray fervently.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who generously prayed and supported us throughout 2023. Over the past year, we have been able to provide food, tuition, and support to 11 orphanages, including the newly assisted Disability Orphanage and Love Orphanage. We also covered rent for the Disability Orphanage and Fabien Orphanage and conducted health check-ups for the children. Your love and dedication have been a tremendous source of strength for over 400 orphans living in challenging and dangerous conditions. Thank you once again for walking this journey with us.

     In Haiti, the end of the year and New Year are typically holiday periods when most businesses close, often from the week before Christmas until the first week of January. Even the gangs are relatively quiet during this time. While there was a tragic incident on December 24 involving gang gunfire at the reopening of a general hospital, resulting in the deaths of several people, including two journalists, no major incidents have occurred since.

     On Friday, January 3, UN-supported forces from Guatemala and El Salvador arrived in Haiti. Though their numbers are small (75 from Guatemala and 8 from El Salvador), we believe their presence sends a clear message to the gangs.

     The children are currently on holiday, and orphanages like Gabriel Orphanage are receiving food supplies through missionary Tack at the Sonapi Center. We are deeply grateful to God for enabling us to begin the New Year by providing food to those in confinement.

     Some children at the Disability Orphanage are suffering from pneumonia and need hospital care, but finding open hospitals has been difficult. Many free hospitals remain closed, and we’ve received requests for assistance with medical bills. Additionally, we've been asked to help buy shoes for the children at Samson Orphanage and to address the salary shortfall for teachers at Fabien School.

     As we enter the New Year, we continue to pray for peace to be restored from the grip of gangs and for political stability to return quickly. We also pray for consistent food supplies and for the children to remain healthy. Although our resources are limited, we thank God for allowing us to provide food steadily and hold onto hope that He will care for the children in this New Year, as He always has.

     JetBlue is set to resume selling tickets for flights to Haiti starting April 29. We are praying and preparing to enter Haiti as soon as flights resume.

     We humbly ask for your continued prayers in the New Year. We are committed to persevering in this mission, ensuring that your love, prayers, and support for these children bear fruit.

     "I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy." (Psalm 140:12)

     We are holding onto the faintest light of hope that this New Year will bring improvement.
